BJS and Aamir Khan’s Paani Foundation to work for Drought

Drought is a perennial problem of Maharashtra and this issue needs to be addressed with planned strategies and methods. Since its inception in 1985, BJS has been working as an active organization to help people in drought affected areas to face the challenges. Both in 2013 and 2016, BJS focused in Maharashtra with practical approaches & interventions. In 2013, in Beed district, BJS completed a project of de-silting 115 village water bodies (ponds, tanks) within 1 month. In 2016, BJS worked in 3 districts that were maximum affected by drought – Beed, Latur, Osmanabad for water distribution and expanding river and nullah beds.

Now, BJS has strengthened its mission to make Maharashtra drought-free by collaborating with Paani Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by actor cum social activist Amir Khan. This organization inspires & trains villagers by spreading accurate technical/general knowledge about watershed management as well as water conservation in villages. BJS joined hand with Paani foundation in an event held on 16th October, 2016 for starting more impactful initiatives to solve drought related problems in the state. This event was attended by Amir Khan himself and entire Paani Foundation Team; Shri Satyajit Bhatkal (Director of Satyamev Jayate), Dr. Abhinash Pol (Core team member), and Reena Dutta (COO) are important names to mention.

Apart from this, hundreds of BJS volunteers were excited to hear from the actor directly. Widely known as Mr. Perfectionist, Amir Khan addressed the gathering and inspired the volunteers to work dedicatedly to make Maharashtra drought-free. In a meeting held after the event with Paani Foundation team, it is decided to work upon 30 talukas of Maharashtra in the initial phase of the large project.
